MICRONEEDLING WITH PRP

What is PRP?

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma and can be used for hair loss as a non-surgical method of hair restoration. In PRP therapy, growth factors and other beneficial cells found in the patient’s own blood are reintroduced back into the scalp via injection to promote hair regrowth where hair has been lost or is thinning.

PRP is a safe procedure as the blood cells used to stimulate hair regrowth are the patients’ own growth factors. The preparation of the platelets is performed using a special centrifuge system that collects the growth factors and active proteins. PRP therapy is a proven therapy to help with healing and has widely been used for wound repair and tissue healing for many years. There are many benefits to PRP therapy for hair loss, including:

  • No surgery: PRP for hair loss is a non-surgical alternative for hair restoration.

  • No downtime: There is no need to take time off from your regular activities after receiving PRP for hair loss.

  • Safe: PRP therapy uses your body’s own natural growth factors, as opposed to chemicals.

  • Effective: Studies have shown that PRP injections in the scalp may result in significant stimulation in hair cross-section.

How is the procedure done?

PRP treatments are completed with three easy steps:

  1. First, Dr. Jain will draw your blood from your arm.

  2. That blood is then placed into a centrifuge to spin down into three layers: plasma rich in platelets, platelet-poor plasma, and red blood cells.  Only the PRP will be used.

  3. PRP is then injected into your scalp with a syringe after a topical anesthetic has been applied.

How will I know if I can benefit from PRP injections?

During your initial consultation, Dr. Jain will evaluate your scalp and let you know if you are a good candidate.

What are the side effects of this treatment?

The good news is there are very few side effects as PRP uses the patient’s own blood to stimulate hair growth, the possibility of any side effects or reactions is extremely low. It is a great option for patients looking for a natural, non-surgical option for the treatment of hair loss.

What to expect after PRP injections

Immediately following the procedure, the most commonly reported temporary side effects are redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness, headache, tingling, numbness, lumpiness and/or a feeling of pressure or fullness at the injection sites and/or in the treated area(s).

How to maximize results & prevent complications

Avoid washing your hair for the first 24 hours (if possible 48 hours). After 48 hours you can wash your hair and return  to your normal hair care routine. Avoid direct high heat (e.g. blow dryer, sun, sauna, steam room, very hot shower, hot yoga, strenuous exercise, etc.) until the morning after treatment.
